Months away from a decision

Kirk Merritt is not racing to make a decision in recruiting. The electric athlete out of Louisiana has favorites, but he is not leaning towards a commitment in the near future...

Kirk Merritt was a blur at The Opening. His Nike SPARQ rating of 147.60 was the best of the best out in Oregon earlier this month.

He played fast all week and he was impressive at wide receiver. The Destrehan, La. four-star athlete on Scout has a top five.

"My favorites at Oregon, Texas A&M, Auburn, Alabama, and LSU right now," said Merritt.

Merrits speaks on each.

Alabama: "I like Coach Napier and I like the atmosphere there. Alabama wins a lot too, so that I like."

Auburn: "Auburn is going to throw the ball a little more and they want to use me in their offense. They can move me around get the ball to me."

LSU: "Some say LSU is on top because of it being closest to home, but I wouldn't say LSU has an edge being the in-state school. It is just a great school and I love the SEC. They know how to win there too."

Oregon: "I like the offense at Oregon. They run the spread and they know how to get guys in space. I saw Travis Waller (Oregon quarterback commit) at The Opening and I like his game too."

Texas A&M: "Kyler Murray is a great quarterback and they run a system like Oregon where they spread people out. I like their coaches too and I know they have a plan for me if I choose them."

As fast as he was moving in Oregon at The Opening, he is taking his recruitment a little slower.

He is still months away from a decision.

"I am probably going to make a decision after the season more than likely," said Merritt. "I would like to commit at an all-american game if I get invited to one."

Auburn, Oregon, and Texas A&M are the schools he's leaning towards visiting officially as of right now.
