Costello set for whirlwind visit tour in June

QB K.J Costello

We've seen Rancho Santa Margarita (Calif.) Santa Margarita quarterback K.J. Costello several times this spring and at this past weekends Steve Clarkson QB Retreat in Coronado, California, he threw as well as we've ever seen him.

We've been saying it for two years now but when you look at quarterback K.J. Costello, he's a kid that just oozes upside and potential. While a lot of programs are looking more and more at athletic, dual threat quarterbacks, Costello is a throwback to your classic big, strong, physical pocket passer who can get the ball down the field.

Costello is all of 6-4, 215 pounds and has a cannon for an arm. He's strong mechanically, moves around pretty well in the pocket and has improved his accuracy, feel for the position and his overall timing and anticipation.

"This retreat has been awesome," Costello said over the weekend. This is my second time working out with Steve and he's a great coach. It's always good to fine tune some things and get some work in.

"It has been pretty low key out here, the main focus has been on having a good time and meeting some of the other quarterbacks. It's a nice vacation for my family and we have all loved it out here. The other quarterbacks are great guys and we've all bonded really well."

Costello recently set up several unofficial visits in mid-June where he'll visit seven different programs.

"My 7v7 team (BBT) is playing in the IMG Tournament in Florida June 20 so I'm going to take a ton of visits while I'm already on the road," Costello said. "On June 15, I'm going to fly out to Michigan. I've been talking with Coach Nussmeiera lot and we really connect well. I like him a lot and he's going to come out and see me this week.

"From there, we'll drive out to Notre Dame on the 16th, then fly out of Chicago to Alabama on the 17th. Then well drive to Knoxville to visit Tennessee on the 18th and from there, we'll drive to Florida where I'll visit Florida State, Florida and possibly Miami. It's going to be a crazy 8-9 stretch but I'm excited and looking forward to it."

Upon returning home, Costello said he'll turn his focus to his Eagles team but could do one more camp.

"We start back at school on the 23rd," Costello said. "Hopefully I can do the USC Rising Stars Camp, that's always a fun one but it's up to my coach. If he's ok with that, I would love to do that.

"I was going to camp with Stanford too but I don't think I can fit it in and they've seen me throw a ton anyway so the ball is kind of in their court. They haven't really reached out much like the other schools so I'm not sure how interested they are. It's a great school and I like them a lot so we'll just see where everything goes."
