| Named Big 12 Offensive Freshman of the Year by league coaches and the Associated Press' Big 12 Newcomer of the Year after moving into the starting QB spot in the seventh game of the 2003 season. Registered 948 yards rushing on 126 carries, including 11 rushing TDs. His 7.4 ypc led the nation. Completed 84-of-143 passes (58.7 percent) for a school freshman record 1,155 yards, including six passing TDs and 7 INTs.
Led Texas with 179.4 yards of total offense per game. Young is the first player in UT history to post 900+ yards rushing and 1,000+ yards passing in the same season.
Led the game-winning drive against eventual Big 12 champ Kansas State with a 52-yard toss to FL Tony Jeffery and his fourth down 1-yard TD plunge late in the fourth quarter.
