| Biography: |
| Had a season of true highs and lows in 2004, ranging from one of the most memorable performances in recent OSU history to forgettable off-the-field incidents. Was made the starter for the Indiana game after Justin Zwick's injury and lack of performance in a blowout at Iowa. Held on to the starting spot through the rest of the regular season and capped it with one of the great performances in the history of the OSU/Michigan rivalry, passing for 241 yards on 13 of 23 with two TDs and rushing for 150 yards and one TD on 18 carries. Was declared ineligible for Alamo Bowl vs. Oklahoma State after it was learned he accepted money from a booster.
On the season, Smith went 68-122 for 896 yards and 8 TDs with 3 INTs and rushed for 401 yards and 2 TDs on 82 carries. Is expected to be the starting quarterback once he returns from suspension for the booster incident.
