6-4 Michigan recruit Dion Harris of Detroit Redford has been named Mr. Basketball for the state of Michigan.

6-4 Michigan recruit Dion Harris of Detroit Redford was named Mr. Basketball for the state of Michigan. Harris who led Detroit Redford to the school's first Public School League championship as a sophomore and to the Class A finals as a junior, is the 23rd recipient of the Hal Schram Mr. Basketball award. Harris accumulated 555 points and Detroit DePorres' Brandon Cotton, who signwed with Michigan State, finished second with 503. Ironically, Cotton was named to the McDonald's All-Amerrican team, while Harris surprising was not named to the game, North Muskegon's Drew Naymick, who signed with Michigan State, was third with 252 points. Harrisis the first University of Michigan-bound player to win the award since Robert Traylor (Detroit Murray-Wright) in 1995. The previous four winners all attended Michigan State. Harris averaged 24.6 points and 8.7 rebounds for the Huskies, who advanced to the Detroit Public School League championship game before losing to Renaissance. Redford was eliminated from the Class A state tournament last week when it was upset by Detroit Mumford.
