Amir Williams receiving plenty of attention
Posted Jul 14, 2010
Country Day’s 6’11 center Amir Williams seems to be attracting more and more schools his way. Williams continues to soak it all in. Amir, who recently just returned home from Texas with a gold medal from the USA 18 and Under Basketball Team, talks to GBW about schools that are coming at him and his experience on the USA team.
star is rising. As the pieces of his game continue to come together, colleges are beginning to turn up the heat for his services. ANd the instate schools are all over him trying to lure him to stay home and play.
“I hear from Coach Bacari Alexander from Michigan who wants me to come up for a visit so we can chat. Coach Stephens from State wants me to come up there also. Right now I am just taking my time with the process."
Williams says other players, on a regular basis, are trying to recruit him to the school that they have committed too. “CB (Carlton Brundidge- Michigan commit) is always talking to me about Michigan every chance he gets -- not in an annoying way, but just letting me know he wants us to play together.
Since our last interview Amir has recently received offers from Pittsburgh and Maryland. LSU, Texas and Kentucky are showing a lot of love to him. Kentucky’s John Calipari has even been to one of his AAU practices with The Family. Lately Williams has been contacted by another school big time school down South.
“North Carolina has contacted me. I talked with Coach Steve Robinson and he said they would like to see me more this summer."
There was an opportunity presented to Amir this summer, and he ran with it. He was invited to the USA 18 and Under Team tryouts. The young man was impressed not only by the talent there but also by the coaches.
“I had a great time and learned so much. It is the best thing I could have ever done up until this point. I haven’t played against top talent like this before. In high school I could bully my way around, but during the tryouts I had to use my skill to pull me through."
As far as the talent in attendance he was impressed by a few of them.
(Florida) is a hustle machine, he really gets after it. And I like the way Kylie Irving (Duke) plays, he is quick and fast with the ball and he reminds me of Ty Lawson who use to play for Carolina."
Amir also spoke highly of some of the coaches he came in contact with while trying out for Team USA.
were both helpful in my development. They talked with me about how to approach the game as well as giving a full effort every time out. That is something I want to become more consistent with every time out on the floor."
With commits coming from some high profile players, Williams is still in no rush to make a decision.
“I just want to enjoy the process and see what school is the best fit for me, and then make a decision on where to go to school."
Amir is playing in the Nike Peach Jam this week, and college coaches are going to be making sure to show him plenty of attention.
