The Eastmoor Academy (OH) safety once had the Wolverines on top of his list, and then the Ohio State Buckeye’s offered. Is Michigan still a threat to land him? Is he planning another U-M visit? GoBlueWolverine gets the latest.
Eastmoor Academy (OH)
Ron Tanner
, the no. 5 safety in the nation according to Scout.com, had the Wolverines all over him in the early part of the 2011 recruiting season ... and that is still seemingly the case.
“I’ve still been talking to Michigan and I've got to get back up there for a visit,” Tanner told
GoBlueWolverine
. “Right now it is baseball season, so it’s been kind of difficult going out and making visits. I definitely plan on getting back up to Michigan sometime this spring or summer on another visit.”
Part of the definitive decision to make it back to Ann Arbor on an unofficial is the fact that he’s kept in close contacts with the Maize and Blue coaches.
“I talk to the coaches like every week or every other week for sure. They’re really just excited about recruiting me and trying to get me up there and just on campus as much as possible and getting me more familiar with the program and the things they do. Right now we’ve just been talking about how everything is starting to go really well. The players are all motivated to be successful this season.”
Many in Wolverine Nation feared that Tanner would drop for the Buckeye’s as soon as he got his hometown offer, but that wasn’t the case. In fact, Tanner is still very interested in their arch-rival as well as other schools.
“Michigan is still high on my interest level. Just because I got an offer from someone else doesn’t mean it would change my interest level in another school. I’m still interested; I just have to learn more about the program.”
When Tanner does indeed make it back to the Great Lake State, he’ll be looking for a few things that he hasn’t been able to participate in on past visits.
“Just personalities, you know, seeing if I fit in as far as the different people there and I haven’t been able to see their workout facilities. I want to learn more about the academic part of the school.”
Tanner at one point was considered certain to make an early decision, but now the odds of that sit directly at 50/50.
“It’s kind of a thing where I go back and forth. I’m really not sure. I can’t give you a definite answer and tell you that I’m telling the truth. I go back and I debate back and forth between the two, so it’s kind of undecided right now.”
