Elite OT to Visit Michigan

Elite OT to Visit Michigan

Offers have come to Aztec High (NM) from all across the country for 4-star offensive tackle Matt Hegarty. One of the latest came from the Michigan Wolverines, who are receiving a visit from him soon.

There are few offensive tackles around the country who have the resume of Aztec (NM) product Matt Hegarty.

The 6'5, 265-lb Hegarty has won MVP at three separate National Underclassmen Combines, made junior All-American, 1st team All-State and accumulated numerous other accolades.

He has earned offers from across the country, including UCLA, Florida State, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Texas and USC. Now, after months of contact, Michigan is also on board.

"I have been recruited by Michigan for months but only recently received an offer from Coach Frey," Hegarty reported. "I am doing a short unofficial to Michigan this Friday evening to meet him, see the campus a bit, and check out Ann Arbor."

Hegarty says the visit will be part of a string of visits in the Midwest.

"I received offers from a couple schools in the area, so my Dad set up visits. Unfortunately, due to our schedule in Chicago, we are only able to see [Michigan] Friday late afternoon-evening. We plan to stay over night in Ann Arbor and check out the campus, have dinner there and look around."

With it being his first time to campus, Hegarty is hoping to take a good look at everything from the coaches to the depth chart and town.

"Coach Frey and their crew have been very good to see me and my parents for a short visit. I am hopeful I can review their depth chart to see where I may be the best asset for the team from their perspective. Michigan is a huge campus with high academics and a football program with a long successful tradition that is rebuilding."

With the flood of interest, Hegarty is doing his best to give everyone a fair look.

"I am reviewing smaller schools, bigger schools, high academic, strong football programs and combinations thereof, to see where I may fit best."

Hegarty says he would like to make a commitment this summer.
