Question: How are you? Tell me how your first few days at Michigan.
Austin White: "I'm good. It's been pretty good. It took a little while to get used to the workouts and acclimating to the school and everything like that. It has been a couple of weeks now, so I feel like I'm getting the hang of stuff. It's still going to get worse before it gets better. Right now I'm handling things pretty well."
Question: Let's talk about the classroom. You go to 30…what's your largest class here?
Austin White: "Well my classes are generally pretty small here because I'm in the School of Kinesiology and LSA. The competition level is completely different. It is like going from the best competition on the field rising and in the classroom rising, so it is a whole new level from high school. Because in the classroom you wouldn't have people challenge you. They were smart people, but they weren't trying to get the professors attention. So you got to kind of fight for your professors attention and stuff like that. I'm doing a lot better now that I'm used to it."
Question: Finding your way around campus and all those good things?
Austin White: "Luckily I have five other guys that are in the same class as me so we got to go through the experience together. So it was pretty good to have them there too."
Question: Let's talk about you signing early; is that something that you had been thinking about for quite a while leading up to your recruitment in terms of your junior year?
Austin White: "My junior year I wasn't really thinking about it too much."
Question: When did it kick in then?
Austin White: "When I decided to come to Michigan and I started to come to all the games and stuff like that and I started hearing gossip. It really made me think about the benefits of coming in early and stuff like that. I talked to my parents and stuff like that we knew it was going to be tough to take extra classes and do all that stuff to graduate early. I took some time to consider it and everything like that and I decided to do it and I think it was one of the best things I've ever done."
Question: Let's talk about football have you done much at all with them. You've been in the weight room with Coach Barwis; what's been going on there?
Austin White: "We started training a week after we got up here. So it's been about two and a half weeks now and they do not throw you in the mix right away, you got to learn certain stuff. The workouts still in just the learning phase is still getting you. You'll be tired at the end of the day and stuff like that. I really appreciate the physical challenge and the mental challenge being at Michigan and I feel like it has helped push me to the next level already in my game. I'm really having a good time watching myself improve in just these couple of weeks."
Question: What are your goals from right now up until spring practice; where you can trying to impress and show them what you can do; what are your personal goals right now?
Austin White: "My goal is to really show the coaches that I work hard and I hopefully get a shot on the field in the spring game and stuff like that. Just get reps and it is going to take a while I know, but I'm just going to have to consistently work hard and improve my game and get better and better every day. That's really my goal is just get better every day and just make myself the best player I can."
Question: What is the difference between college and high school so far?
Austin White: "It definitely to me the biggest challenge has been time management. When you have that extra time and you really are tired from practice, but you know that you have a big paper due, you got to do that paper. There is no one there telling you, like your parents or anything, get that paper done, do your homework, blah, blah, blah. It's really up to you and that's the thing I've struggled with the most but at the same time I've got help with and starting to get it under control now."
