Flowers Will Look to Get Away

Greenville, SC WR Hakeem Flowers has racked up an obscene number of scholarships, which only further cements his status as one of the top prospects in the class of 2011. GoBlueWolverine caught up with this recent Michigan offer recipient to get the latest on his recruitment before he participates in the Army junior combine.

For most of the nation's top junior prospects recruiting is now beginning to shift into high gear.  For Greenville (SC) Wade Hampton high wideout Hakeem Flowers, that happened a long time ago.

"Right now I have 31 offers," Flowers said.  "Michigan is my latest one. I talked to my coach and he told me that they we offering me."

The Maize & Blue may be the newest suitor to the party, but they have as one if their strongest attributes a key component in Flowers' decision criteria.

"First of all, I'm looking for academics because that plays a main part," Flowers stated.  "Then I'm going to look at the coaching staff and how we get along and stuff like that."

That prioritization is echoed by the Palmetto State star's father.  Football is certainly an overwhelming factor, but his son's overall enrichment is the most important one.

"First, we're going to look at academics and see does it really fit in to what he wants to do in the future,"  Mr. Flowers explained.  "Coaching – does he mesh with the coaches and players and things like that.  Make sure they are in location.  We want him to broaden his horizon and get outside and not be a local kid.  Just go and expand his wings and let him go."

Added Hakeem, "no (distance) is not going to be a factor at all."

With no proximal issues in limiting his options, Flowers has numerous programs he will seriously consider.  Now it's just a matter of learning more about them.

"We're going to travel during the summer," Mr. Flowers said.  "We're going try to get to some of these schools as far off and see what they're about and try and enjoy some of the summer."

GoBlueWolverine will have more on Flowers after his participation in the Army All American combine.
