The Michigan Wolverines hosted a number of visitors last week for the Penn State game. A several commitments were also on hand, including Western PA star Kenny Wilkins. GBW was able to catch up with Wilkins, and get impressions of his most recent trip to Ann Arbor.
GBW: How did your visit go?
Kenny Wilkins
: “It was good, went really well. I had a chance to hang out with a lot of the local guys that are already committed, like
Ricardo Miller
. I also met a couple recruits, mainly to the kid from Louisiana.”
GBW: Are you referring to
Carvin Johnson
?
KW: “Yeah, that’s him. We hung out for a while, he was telling me what schools are recruiting him and stuff like that. He mentioned Minnesota a couple times. But he told me that he likes Michigan, and was having a great time on his visit.”
GBW: I know you were excited to be on campus to watch the Michigan-Penn State game. What were your thoughts when watching the game unfold?
KW: “I thought Michigan had a lot of intensity, they scored right away. They just had a couple miscues in their execution, and messed up a couple times. But Penn State is a good team, you can’t take thing away from them.”
GBW: Did you get a chance to interact with any of the coaches?
KW: “Yeah, I talked to coach Gibson; then I talked with coach Rodriquez for awhile. I actually had a chance to talk to
Brandon Graham
.”
GBW: What did Brandon have to say?
KW: “He just told me that it’s going to be on us (young guys) the next couple of years. He said I made a great decision to wear the Maize and Blue.”
GBW: Speaking of the next couple of years, Michigan has a young defense that is need of some playmakers. Is that something that you’ve noticed and get excited about?
KW: Yeah, there is an opportunity for playing time, and the kid from Arizona (
Craig Roh
) is an example of that. I’m looking forward to coming in during the summer, and working my way up the depth chart.”
GBW: I know your season is winding down, and your in a must win situation to qualify for the playoffs.
KW: “We play Ringgold this Friday. But I won’t be able to play. I got sick towards the end of my Michigan visit. When I got home the doctors diagnosed me with mono, so I haven’t attended school all week. They told me to sit this week out until I feel better.”
GBW: Do you think the (Trinity) team will be able to win without you in the lineup?
KW: “We should be able to win, our team has some good players.”
(so ... for Kenny, the visit was "sick" ... and ... sick)
