Dan Schneider Reflects On Michigan Visit/Camp
"It went well," Schneider recalled for GoBlueWolverine. "I really enjoyed everything I saw. We toured Schembechler Hall and had a meeting with Coach Barwis. Coach Tall was the one that took me around, because he's my area's recruiter. We walked over to the academics building. We came back and I sat down with Coach Rodriguez and Coach Magee at different times."
In those meetings Schneider got a feel for what Rich Rodriguez and company have in store for the Maize and Blue and possibly himself. It's something Schneider reflected quite highly upon.
"Basically they were just talking about their philosophy and what they're going to do with the program. I feel like I can definitely help with what they're doing. I feel their thoughts are real similar to how I do things, and hopefully I can get that opportunity."
Schneider went home after that unofficial, only to make the trek back just ten days later for Michigan's elite camp. He impressed GoBlueWolverine, who was in attendance en-force, and had him in the top five performers list that day (see: GBW's Elite Camp Wrapup). The 6-3, 230 pound Schneider himself is hard pressed to agree.
"Honestly, I don't think I put my best foot forward. I gave all I had on that day. Every day you wake up and you feel a certain way. Some days you have it, and some days you don't. I feel like I gave it everything I had on Saturday, but I still don't feel I did my best in that respect. But I feel I still flashed things I can do on a consistent basis; I just have to work on that."
After the camp had wrapped up, Schneider got an opportunity to have some face time with the coaches to see where they stood about a possible offer for the talented pass catcher.
"They basically just said that they're going to sit down and watch the film, because they filmed everything. Then next week I'll give them a call or something and we'll figure it out from there."
Should the Wolverines choose to extend the scholarship offers, they'll join a host of schools vying for his services.
"There are quite a few schools like Florida State, West Virginia, Indiana. Those are all offers. If Michigan offers, I'll be able to tell you a lot better where they fit into my group."
If they do indeed offer, they could possibly put themselves into strong contention to land Schneider, who is enamored with some of the aspects that "The U" has to offer.
"Obviously the tradition of the program just speaks for itself. And everything is so aggressive there, including all the renovations. And the coaches are great."
One of the last things working in favor for the Maize and Blue is a close relationship with teammate, friend, and current Michigan commitment Christian Pace. An offer from Michigan could potentially extend their long-standing close friendship.
"Christian and I are very close. It'd be a tremendous opportunity to be together at the next level for the next four or five years. We work out together and have very similar mindsets when it comes to the game of football and work ethic. It'd just be a great opportunity."
