The seventh 2010 commitment for the Wolverines speaks about his decision, what position he’d like to play, which former Michigan stars he watched growing up, and future visit plans.

Dallas Skyline speed-demon Tony Drake’s commitment to Michigan took a lot of people by surprise.  He was a name that wasn’t even the radar of many people, and then suddenly he was a Wolverine.  Drake explains to GBW that he’s a lot like some former recruits for Rich Rodriguez.

“I’m like a Noel Devine or Steve Slaton type" he told GoBLueWolverine. "I really don’t care if I play running back or slot.  I do a lot of things… just different things that they say people my height couldn’t do.  I make a lot of people miss.”

If his talents are anything like that of Devine or Slaton, it’s goes without question why Rodriguez and company would offer him a scholarship.  What still shocks many is the fact that it was accepted almost immediately.  Drake says it was just a matter of time anyway.

“Really, Michigan is just the perfect fit.  Their offense is so similar to our offense.  The history of Michigan, too.  Watching Charles Woodson and Mike Hart and all those guys.  I’ve always just liked Michigan.  Everyone is proud of me because they all knew I liked Michigan.  I got the offer, and I was thinking about it, because it was one of the offers I was hoping and waiting for.”

Shortly after being offered the said scholarship, Drake went into action by calling up the Wolverines coaching staff to offer his verbal pledge.  It’s something he says they took with great enthusiasm.

“They were happy.  They were real happy.  They just made sure that I had talked with my family about it and got the letter and everything.”

One of the next things left is to determine where Drake will fit into when he finally does suit up for the Maize and Blue.  That determination will probably come sooner, rather than later, as Drake and his family plan a trip to Michigan’s annual spring game for some face time with his future coaches.

“We really didn’t talk about it (Drake’s position).  He (Coach Rodriguez) will probably say sometime when I come up in the spring.  I’m probably coming up in the spring.  Really we’re just coming up to check out the school and the spring game. If for some reason that doesn't work out then we'll come up in the summer.”

When Drake does make it up for his first visit to his future university, he has a set plan when it comes to getting ready to attend, as well as getting to know his future classmates in the 2010 year.  He may even do a little recruiting himself.

“I really just want to get familiarized with some of the commitments and the other people who are thinking about Michigan.”
