ANN ARBOR -- The Michigan basketball team had five players score in double figures on Tuesday night as the Wolverines improved to 4-1 on the season with an 83-49 win over the visiting Norfolk State Spartans at Crisler Arena. Manny Harris led all Michigan players with 16 points and 15 rebounds.

Aside from giving up the first basket of the game, and struggling with an 0-for-10 start from the field, it was all Maize and Blue from the opening jump. Stu Douglass put Michigan on top for good with U-M's first made field goal, a three-point jumper with just more then five minutes run off the clock.

Jevohn Shepherd hit Michigan's second triple of the game minutes later to make it 8-4 Wolverines. DeShawn Sims took a feed from Manny Harris and dunked the lead to 10-4, and then Zack Novak took over.

Finishing with 12 points, all coming in the late first half run, Novak helped U-M extend the lead to 17-points by the end of the first half.

His first bucket of the contest, a three-ball with 11:21 left in the half, made it 13-5 Michigan. He scored the Wolverines next basket as well, and scored back-to-back baskets again with seven minutes left to make it 23-9. He capped his run with a three-point basket that gave Michigan a 28-10 lead.

The teams exchanged baskets the remainder of the half with U-M ultimately holding a 40-23 advantage on the scoreboard.

The lead ballooned near the start of the second half. Michigan opened the stanza with a 13-4 run that included three-pointers from Kelvin Grady and Anthony Wright. Stu Douglass and Manny Harris each added a bucket as well.

Jevohn Shepherd pushed the lead to 33-points with a pair of buckets with 10 minutes left in the contest. The lead eventually grew to 40 points before being trimmed to 34 over the final 10 minutes.

The Wolverines return to Crisler Arena on Saturday afternoon to take on the Savannah State Tigers. The game will be the Wolverines final tune up for two-game stretch that includes Maryland in the Big 10/ACC challenge, and a second shot at the Duke Blue Devils.
