Kevin Porter Named to Hobey Hat Trick

Senior captain Kevin Porter is a Hobey Hat Trick finalist for the 2008 Hobey Baker Award to be presented on April 11, 2008, at the Frozen Four in Denver, Colo. Miami’s Ryan Jones and Boston College’s Nathan Gerbe also remain in the hunt to claim the prestigious award. Michigan's lone Hobey Baker Award winner is Brendan Morrison back in 1997.

Michigan's Kevin Porter is a Hobey Hat Trick finalist for the 2008 Hobey Baker Award.

Presented annually to the most outstanding player in college hockey based on strength of character both on and off the ice, displaying outstanding skills in all phases of the game, sportsmanship and scholarstic achievements, Porter is joined by forwards Ryan Jones of Miami and Nathan Gerbe of Boston College.

As the Wolverines captain, Porter has helped guide the Wolverines to the Frozen Four with an astounding record of 33-5-4. Under Porter's leadership, the Maize and Blue clinched both the CCHA Regular Season Championship and the CCHA Tournament Championship. He was selected as the CCHA Player of the Year, and currently leads the nation in both goals (33)and total points (62).

With five goals in the opening weekend of NCAA Tournament competition, Porter was named the MVP of the East Regional. Through this point in the season, he holds a +34 rating on the season, tops for the Wolverines hockey team.

Porter is scheduled to graduate with a degree in General Studies later this month.

The Hobey Baker Award is choosen by the Hobey Baker Selection Committee, which is a group of coaches, scouts, media and a representative from USA Hockey.
