With a 5-1 win on Friday night and a 6-2 on Saturday, the No. 2-ranked Wolverines completed their fifth straight weekend sweep. Kevin Porter netted four goals and two assists on the weekend on the way to CCHA Offensive Player of the Week honors. Two other Wolverines received top billing as well.
The No. 2-ranked
Michigan
hockey team continued to roll with a pair of wins over Lake Superior State Lakers up in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. On the weekend, senior captain
Kevin Porter
extended his NCAA-leading goal total up to 13 with a pair of goals each night on the way to CCHA Offensive Player of the Week honors. He also tallied an assist each night to make it a six-point weekend for Porter.
Not to be outdone, junior goalie
Billy Sauer
claimed his second straight CCHA Goalie of the Week honors. After struggling last season, Sauer's overwhelming turn around continued this past weekend as he turned aside 58-of-61 shots (.951) to raise his save percentage to .913 on the season. His goal against average for the season dropped to a personal best 2.08 through 12 games, good for fourth in the CCHA.
Max Pacioretty
recorded his first CCHA Weekly Award when he was named the conferences Rookie of the Week to complete the trio. Pacioretty scored a goal with three assists on the weekend and extended his point streak to eight games.
The No. 2 Wolverines next return to the ice for the 15th annual College Hockey Showcase at Michigan's Yost Ice Arena. The Wolverines face-off with the No. 12
Wisconsin
on Friday night before hosting the No. 13
Minnesota
Gophers, the team responsible for the Wolverines lone blemish of the year, on Saturday. Tickets for both nights are still available through the Michigan box office. Both games are set to be televised by the Big Ten Network.
