The new-look Wolverines improved to 2-0 under coach John Beilein with a 72-57 win over Brown University on Sunday afternoon in Ann Arbor. Freshmen guards Manny Harris and Kelvin Grady each recorded double-digit points for the second straight game, and DeShawn Sims added 17 plus four rebounds for the Maize and Blue.
ANN ARBOR --
The youth movement continued in Ann Arbor this afternoon. In the Wolverines second game under coach John Beilein, DeShawn Sims, Manny Harris and
Kelvin Grady
once again led the Wolverines in scoring on Sunday afternoon as the Wolverines pasted Brown 72-57 at Crisler Arena in Ann Arbor.
Now 2-0 on the season, the Wolverines jumped out to a comfortable 12-2 lead before the first media timeout. Senior
Ron Coleman
, sophomore DeShawn Sims, who finished with 17, and Kelvin Grady, who finished with 10, each netted three-balls before the first timeout.
"We won. We got a little bit better in some areas and the film, we call the truth. The film that will out there for us will be invaluable," Coach John Beilein said. "That will be my next thing. I want to see how many clips I can show them of what we were doing. We have so many young kids out there making so many little mistakes, that they don't really see until they see it on film. This group sort of has that 'Ah ha, now I understand' attitude. That is a great thing. So, this film will be invaluable."
Anthony Wright
, after red-shirting last season under former coach Tommy Amaker, connected on three triples after the timeout. The Wolverines finished the half 9-of-15 from behind the three point arc.
Freshman guard Manny Harris led all scores at the half with 14 points. Harris connected on two triples over the 20 minutes and added two other field goals.
"It was a great win, we have a lot of confidence. We do have a long way to go. We have a big game Thursday, we just want to take one game at a time," Harris said.
Michigan
led 37-21 at the break.
In the second half, the Wolverines continued to be paced by Sims and Harris. Sims finished 7-of-11 from the floor and the Wolverines finished with a 72-57 edge in scoring.
Michigan next returns to the floor for its first road contest of the season against
Georgetown
on Thursday night. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
