One of the top high school cornerbacks on many school’s wish lists across the country – including Michigan’s – is River Ridge, Louisiana’s Robby Green. At the end of May, Green was offered a scholarship by Michigan head man Lloyd Carr. GoBlueWolverine recently spoke to Green.
In offering John Curtis High School’s
Robby Green
, Michigan joins other teams such as LSU, Alabama, Florida, and USC. At 6-1, 170 pounds, Robby described his playing style to
GoBlueWolverine
as “very physical. I would have to say that the way I cover and play the ball and my awareness are my strengths. I would like to improve on my speed because you can never get enough speed.”
Green told GBW he strives to base his game off of
Deion Sanders
. “I just like his style of play, his feet and his closing speed. He had really good hands and he had that swagger too.” himself a “lockdown corner. I love being on an island and going man-to-man. Our team mixes up the coverage schemes so I can play both man and zone coverages.”
Michigan coaches would have to agree with that statement, as they told Green that he reminded them of Wolverine great and multiple NFL pro-bowler
Charles Woodson
. “I was really shocked when they said that because to be compared to him is a great honor.”
Green talked a little about Woodson’s collegiate coach and current Michigan defensive backs coach Vance Bedford. “Coach Bedford is pretty cool and I know that he was there and helped put Charles Woodson and
Ty Law
into the league. He said that he’s not scared to play freshman either.”
GBW asked Green what factors he will be looking at in a school. “The personality, as in I want the team to be like family. I want to go to a school with a great environment, where I’m going to fit in and a school that has great tradition and a great fan base. Academic support is also important. Finally, I want to go to a school where I can contribute early. By that I don’t necessarily mean that I want to start, I just want to get out there on the field and play and gain some experience my first year.”
Robby is an intelligent and well-spoken young man who seems to really know what he wants. What interests Green about Michigan?
“Tradition. They put out some big time players and big time cornerbacks in particular into the league. And I always did like Michigan, but I never thought they had that much interest in me as I did with them, so when they offered, I was very excited and shocked. They are really high in my head right now…”
Over the next few months, Green will be taking trips to Alabama, USC, and LSU among other schools. When asked if one of those unofficial visits will be to Michigan, Green responded, “Most definitely.”
Fans will have to wait out a decision from Green as he would like to give every team a fair shot and evaluate all his options because when he decides on Signing Day, he wants to be 100 percent sure.
