Darrin Williams is always on the move. That is one of the qualities that is
making him one of the hottest recruits in the state of Michigan. He has dazzling
open field moves and quick acceleration… traits which have definitely
caught the eye of a number of Big Ten programs.
”I was up at Michigan last week for another practice, then I went to
Michigan State,” Williams reported. “This weekend, I’ll be
at Iowa and after that I’ll be going to Illinois and Ohio State.”
Williams was impressed at both in-state stops this weekend. His visit to East
Lansing allowed him to see first hand how different the Spartans may be under
new coach Mark Dantonio.
”They’re much more energetic there now,” said Williams. “I
really like Coach Dantonio. He’s much more in touch with the players.”
The Spartans are equally impressed with Williams and want to bring him back
to campus to make sure he fits into their offense.
”They want me to come back up,” he said. “They want me to
show that I can catch the ball.”
In Ann Arbor, Williams took part in a photo shoot with the state of Michigan’s
other top prospects for Tom Lemming’s annual yearbook. He also had the
opportunity to take in his second of the Wolverines’ spring practices.
The explosive tailback was impressed with the how the team looked and he was
also happy to talk to Fred Jackson, the Wolverines’ running backs coach,
about how he might fit in.
”He [Coach Jackson] said they only have three scholarship running backs
right now and they’re losing Mike Hart,” said Williams. “They’re
going to need a running back this year.”
After his tour of the Big Ten, Williams will take the summer to visit more
schools and attend more camps before he makes his college choice. There are
options there for him and though he can cover 40 yards in 4.3 seconds, there
is one thing he won’t rush, and that is his decision.
