Dublin (Ohio) Coffman's two stars, OT Mike Adams and TE/WR Jake Stoneburner, were both very impressive performers at this past Jan.'s Army Junior Combine (Adams was named 1st Team All-Combine, Stoneburner 2nd team). And both attended Saturday's Michigan Junior Day. GBW talked with Stoneburner Monday ... the words "blown away" were used ...
Jacob Stoneburner
is a tall (6-4+), big (220+) and smooth (runs like a receiver) tight end who at the Army Junior Combine caught everything in sight as well.
GoBlueWolverine
talked to him about his visit to Ann Arbor on Saturday.
Tell us a little about how the Michigan Junior Day went for you -- did Michigan offer you?
"We got there a little late, my dad and I. There were no Michigan coaches around, they'd already gone with other guys. So we went on the tour -- and Coach Loeffler spotted me. He pulled me aside and said, 'Coach Loeffler wants to talk to you'."
"So when the tour was over Coach Loeffer found me and he talked to me for some time. He told me how I'd fit into Michigan's offense -- either as a tight end or as a wide receiver."
"The Coach Carr pulled me into his office. He told me he likes what he's seen of me, and he offered me a scholarship to go to Michigan."
"It was awesome. I was blown away by Coach Carr. He is very calm and cool."
"Coach Carr really impressed me and my dad."
What other schools have offered you?
"Well, my top schools are Ohio State, Michigan, Notre Dame and Iowa ... all have offered me so far except Ohio State. All four schools are even, I'll go through the recruiting process and see what happens."
What other Junior Days do you plan on attending?
"I've been to Junior Days at Notre Dame and Iowa, as well as Michigan ... in the coming weeks I'm going to Junior Days at Tennessee and Ohio State."
What is your timetable?
"I'm thinking ... I'd like to have it down to about two schools before school starts, then take visits to those school during the season, and make my decision by the end of the season."
"I think me and Mike (Adams) will have Michigan in there to the end. I really like Coach Debord (U-M's TE coach and offensive coordinator), I could see myself playing tight end for him."
So you see yourself as a tight end in college?
"Either one, tight end or wide receiver, whatever gets me on the field."
