Will U-M RB's Former OLB Teammate Be Blue?

Will U-M RB's Former OLB Teammate Be Blue?

Last year Michigan grabbed an underrated running back named Brandon Minor from Varina High School in Richmond, Va. This year there is another underrated player at Varina -- a former safety who has grown into a linebacker. He's coming for a Michigan visit this weekend -- will U-M offer and get a verbal commitment from a sleeper LB for the 2nd week in a row?

Richmond Varina's Marell Evans is a two-star safety in the Scout.com database. However, Evans has grown -- and may have grown himself right into a Michigan scholarship. GoBlueWolverine spoke to Evans Monday evening, who told us:

"I'm 6-3 now and 215 pounds. I run 1 4.6 40. I'm not a safety anymore, I played outside linebacker this season."

Evans had a great senior season for Varina:

"I made 90-some tackles, 6 sacks, and aI made 5 interceptions."

And the Wolverine have taken notice, Evans told us.

"Yes sir, I'm visiting Michigan this weekend."

As far as a Michigan offer, he said:

"They told me I can have a scholarship."

GBW note: it is assumed that on his visit, U-M might 'take it to the next level' with Evans, similar to what they did with Austin Panter last weekend.

As far as other offers and schools of interest, Evans said:

"So far I have offers from Temple, Buffalo and Ball State. Tennessee State said they were offering me this week."

"I'm also getting recruited by Clemson, South Carolina and Virginia Tech. Along with Michigan, these are my four favorites."

And if things work out this weekend, might Evans commit to the Wolverines?

"It's a possibility ..."
