Starting QB still a mystery
Is John Navarre the starter?
Is John Navarre the starter?

Michigan coach Lloyd Carr elected not to announce a starting quarterback when he spoke with the media today.

It was a very popular rumor that Michigan head coach Lloyd Carr would name a starter today, but he did not.

John Navarre is fighting for his job against junior Spencer Brinton, who transferred to Michigan last season from San Diego State.

Navarre started all 12 games last year, but struggled down the stretch, finishing the season with 2,435 yards passing, 19 TDs and 13 interceptions.

Brinton, who spent two years on a Mormon mission in South Africa before joining the Wolverines, saw action in three games last season and threw just one pass.

Carr will give his decision to the players before the media. But there is no telling when that information will finally be public knowledge.
