Not much has changed on the recruiting front in recent weeks for Massillon
Perry big man Kenny Frease. The 6-11 center still has Michigan and Xavier
at the top of his list with Notre Dame and Kentucky nipping at their heels. Some
thought that Frease's interest in Michigan had waned a bit when he didn't make
it up to the Michigan State game a few weeks back. However, according
to the young man himself, nothing could be further from the truth. The
Michigan coaching staff knew in advance that he would not be make it to Ann
Arbor that day because it would interfere with his prior plans to attend his
high school's big time football match-up with McKinley.
“It was a lot of fun," Frease said regarding the gridiron grudge
match. "Over 19,000 fans were at the game. It was nice. The
(Michigan) coaches knew that I would not be able to make so that was cool.
I am going to try and make it to basketball games at Michigan and Xavier if
I can. It depends on my schedule, so we will have to see."
Frease's high school schedule will likely prevent him from making frequent
unofficial visits during the season, but he insists he will find a way to take
at least a few.
“I have eight back to back games on Friday and Saturday this season," Frease
explained. "It is going to be tough, but we're going to really try."
Even if Frease can't make it to Michigan as often as he would like this season,
he'll still see the staff from Ann Arbor quite often. Assistant coach
Andy Moore made his way down to an open gym a few weeks back and Frease has
a strong rapport with his would-be coach.
“I was tired but I got through it," Frease said recalling the open
gym session. "When me and Coach (Moore) talk, it's mostly about school. That
is how our conversations are now. Just like with Xavier we talk more about
school then hoops. Those two schools are awesome and when I talk to them it
is great”.
GoBlueWolverine will have more on Frease in the coming months.
