The Central Collegiate Hockey Association held its annual media day at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit on Wednesday afternoon. For the first time in many years, the coaches and the media disagree on who is most likely to win the CCHA with Michigan and Michigan State splitting the honors. Three Wolverines were selected to the preseason first team All-CCHA team.

Quotes from U-M head coach Red Berenson
"T.J. Hensick has led the team in scoring the last couple of seasons and will be a key component to our team this year and one of the top players in the CCHA."

"I want to compliment players like TJ Hensick, [Scott] Parse, our captain Matt Hunwick, and the other seniors the coaches will be talking about. It's nice to see the seniors stay, complete their four years, become dominant players, and be rewarded for it."

"We did some good things offensively and did some good things defensively last year, but we weren't as consistent as we wanted to be."

"Our highlight of last year may have been our first game of the year, our lowlight may have been our last game, so somewhere in between we have to get better."

"We had a lot of young players last year, 15 new faces, but they should be better this year and will be a bigger part of the team."

"(Sophomore defenseman) Jack Johnson certainly lived up to all the expectations that were put on him."

"(Sophomore goalie) Billy Sauer will be a more experienced and confident goalie, and we should be a better team."

Michigan's 2006-07 season begins on Saturday with the Wolverines annual Blue/White intrasquad scrimmage.
