The Warrior defense was very impressive. All 11 players flowed to the ball. Jeff Boyd
, along with the other defensive linemen were in the backfield on what seemed
like every play. Boyd is very quick off the ball and blew up a couple of run plays
nearly taking the handoff on one. It was because of the sterling play of the front
seven that we did not get to see Michigan
commitment Jerimy Finch
in on too many
plays. He only made one tackle on the night and Franklin Central was sending a
barrage of players his way to block him. It was clear that they game-planned for
him. It didn't matter too much, as the Warrior front dominated the entire game.
Finch did make his presence felt in coverage though, blanketing the deep part
of the field. In their system, he is the only safety and is responsible for anything
going deep. He showed good speed getting to a couple passes and nearly picking
off a deep ball. He also saw a little bit of time on offense and had one reception
as a wideout. He is excellent flowing to the ball and making tackles, but we did
see one area where could improve and that is taking on and shedding blockers.
As for Robinson, he has a gigantic frame. He is more of a possession receiver,
but he is tough to jam and even tougher to tackle once he gets a head of steam.
His size (6'5, 225) has not stopped schools from recruiting him as a wide receiver
though. "The only school that told me tight end is Michigan and even they
said I might play both," he reported after the game, "Every other
school has told me wide receiver." While the Wolverines have had contact
with Robinson, he said he is still waiting for an offer from the maize and blue.
In regards to his favorites, Robinson said, "I don't really have one right
now. I want to wait and take all my visits first before I name one." He
has two visits scheduled so far, West Virginia and Louisville.
The star of the night was Evans. He carried 13 times for 168 yards and scored
5 touchdowns. He has excellent size, balance and natural running instincts.
He is not a true burner but showed a good burst through the hole. He is a smart
runner and wasted very little time dancing and hit the holes as soon as they
The Warriors also have a number of sophomores on the varsity that will no doubt
carry on the Warren Central tradition and find themselves on the recruiting
radar soon. The one to watch appeared to be TE Ed Hazelett, who is already 6'7,
