Six-foot-six offensive tackle Mitchell Schwartz is leaving his home on the ocean cliffs of Pacific Palisades, California to visit the forests of Ann Arbor, Michigan ... he just told GoBlueWolverine when.
GoBlueWolverine spoke to offensive tackle
Mitchell Schwartz
, who hails from from the beautiful Southern Californian ocean cliffs of Pacific Palisades. He'll be leaving the Pacific soon to visit the northern arboreal woods of Ann Arbor.
Have you set a Michigan visit for this month?
"Well, I'm going up there Friday the 25th. I'll stay for three days, until that Sunday."
Are you going to be making an official visit for one of Michigan's games in the fall?
"I'm not sure yet. I would like to, but I'll have to see how my unofficial visit goes up there first."
You just started two-a-days; how's that going?
"Really good. We just got into full pads today and it felt really good to get back and really practice."
Schwartz has seven offers now, from Michigan, Cal, Stanford,Virginia, Tennessee, Oregon and Washington State.
At this spring's LA Scout.com Combine, he measured 6-5.5, 303 pounds, and ran a 5.28 40 and a 4.87 shuttle ... the shuttle time is especially good for a 300-pounder, showing his quick feet. He is also a pitcher on his baseball team, and so as a two-sport star in a warm-weather part of the country, he hasn't really lifted weights much yet. Also, as a youngster baseball was his passion so he has only played organized football for three years. Thus he is a bit of a raw talent. However, it should also be noted that his older brother has started both his freshman and sophomore years at OT for Oregon as a 6-7, 350-pounder.
Schwartz's interest in Michigan is also academic: he has a 4.0+ GPA and a 29 ACT ... making Stanford, Cal and Virginia strong competition. However, he told SuperPrep's Allen Wallace a week ago, "I love Michigan because they are always in the top 10 and have great tradition. They send guys to the NFL every year."
It is just possible that Schwartz could 'pull the trigger' at his Michigan visit, or soon after.
