Josh Brent: U-M, MSU, OSU Camps This Week

Aside from Michigan commitment Ryan VanBergen, who split his time between tight end and defensive end, the top defensive lineman performer at the Michigan Technique Camp this week was, hands down, DT Josh Brent from Bloomington Central Catholic. He went from U-M to MSU, and called GoBlueWolverine today (Saturday) from Ohio State.

GoBlueWolverine got a call on Saturday from the 6-3, 290 pound Josh Brent while he was at another stop on his summer camp tour.

"I was at the Michigan Camp on Tuesday, then I went to MSU on Wednesday, and I'm at Ohio State right now."

His comments on the Michigan Camp:

"The Michigan Camp went great. I got to coach with Coach Strip (DL coach Steve Stripling), and I talked to Coach Carr for a little while."

How did he do?

"Even though I was only there for one day, I was given the Best Defensive Lineman award for the camp."

Did he get more comfortable at Michigan?

"Well, I feel like I know Michigan better now, the coaches and the program."

As far as other stops this summer:

"I'll also visit Wisconsin over the summer, and Missou. The Midwest schools are the ones close enough for me to see over the summer."

Does he have a list of top choices yet?

"I haven't made any evaluations of schools yet. Once I see all the campuses this summer, I'll start evaluating which schools I'll make official visits to."

"And I do want to take all five official visits before I pick a school."

As far as Michigan goes?

"We'll they're certainly a definite possibility for an official visit. Other than that, I don't know ... as I says, I haven't set my final schools yet."

"Anyway," he finished with, "isn't Joe Barksdale Michigan's top D-line recruit?"

GBW opines that, after his camp performance, Brent may be right at the top. He is a mauler who looks like an O-lineman at 6-3 and near 300 pounds, but plays like a D-lineman -- quick, strong, aggressive. A man-handling mauler with quickness. He was unstoppable on OL-DL one-on-ones on Tuesday -- a 'little shorter Alan Branch' might be a good camp comparison.

GBW asked Brent which offensive lineman impressed him the most at camp on Tuesday.

"J.B., J.B. Shugarts ... the big offensive tackle from Texas. He was big and fast. And he's here at Ohio State right now."
