Curtis Shaw, a top prep running back from the state of California, has drawn the eye of the Michigan coaching staff over the past year. In 2005, the talented back ran for over 1,500 yards and is now hearing from schools across the nation. GoBlueWolverine recently caught up with Curtis Shaw to find out where things stand in his recruitment and just how involved the Wolverines are.
Over the past few years, the state of California has seen its fair share of players head east to play under the Wolverines Maize and Blue winged helmet. In the class of 2007, the case seems to be no different.
One player the Wolverines appear to have aimed their sites on is Stockton running back
Curtis Shaw
. A 5-foot-11, 190-pound back, Shaw rushed for 1,653 yards and 21 touchdowns as a junior, and, after a strong performance at a recent Nike Camp, has seen his stock rise quickly. Schools across the country are now after the top back.
“I’ve been hearing from a lot of schools. I’ve heard from Michigan, San Diego State, Oregon, Oregon State, Washington, Washington State, Arizona, Arizona State, Nebraska, Purdue and Cal,” Shaw told GoBlueWolverine Magazine. “And I’ve got a couple of offers. I’ve got them from Washington, Washington State, Nebraska, Michigan, Cal and Purdue.”
With so many showing interest in Shaw, the talented back has yet to begin narrowing down his list of potential suitors. With a decision likely coming shortly after the conclusion of his senior year, Curtis is just beginning to get involved in the process.
“I haven’t taken any visits. I’m going to wait till September or October to go out on any visits," he said. "I don’t have any leaders yet. I like all the schools that I’m going to take a visit to.”
“I’ll probably visit Washington, Michigan, Nebraska, Cal and one other school.”
When the time comes that Shaw does begin to widdle down his list of schools, the back is still unsure of what criteria he will use in determining the right place for him.
“I don’t know what criteria I’m going to use to decide on a school yet. I don’t think distance will be a factor, but other then that I’m not too sure.”
GoBlueWolverine Magazine will continue to bring you the latest in Curtis Shaw's recruitment over the next few months.
