S Artis Chambers Realizes Childhood Dream

The newest Michigan Wolverine had a childhood dream to play for the Maize and Blue. On Junior Day that dream became a possibility for Artis Chambers when U-M head coach Lloyd Carr extended a scholarship offer. Shortly after the dream became reality when he called Carr and committed. Chambers spoke Thursday with GoBlueWolverine.com about becoming Blue.
Safety
Artis Chambers
of R. Nelson Snider High School in Fort Wayne, Ind., had all but given up hope that his dream of playing football for the University of Michigan would come to fruition. He hadn't heard anything from the Wolverine staff, and wasn't expecting any contact. That all changed in mid-January. "Coach (Andy) Moeller contacted me out of the blue and wanted to see some tape," Chambers said. "On Jan. 28 they invited me up for their Junior Day, and that's when I got the offer."
The dream became a reality shortly after as Chambers became the second Wolverine verbal pledge for the recruiting class of 2007. "I just had to talk it over with my parents," he said. "I didn't have any other offers and that was the one I wanted, so there really wasn't any question."
The 6-foot-2, 185-pound Chambers said he hadn't been up to the campus for any Michigan camps, but planned on attending the camp this summer. He said he also plans to make it up to Ann Arbor for several spring practices.
His commitment to Michigan appears to have brought him to the attention of other programs. "I now have offers from Purdue and Indiana," he said. "I'm done though, I'm solid to Michigan."
Chambers also plays quarterback for Snider, but sees his future in the defensive backfield, and that's where the Wolverines are projecting him to play.
