Carlos Brown Picks Michigan in Stunner

In a stunningly unexpected move, running back Carlos Brown of Heard County High School in Franklin, Ga., makes his commitment to Michigan over UGA and South Carolina. Scout.com's Scott Kennedy spoke with Brown's coach, who gave him the news.

In what is certainly one of the most stunning recruiting coups since Michigan snagged Justin Fargas out from under Southern California, the Wolverines pulled off another shocker, with another running back, from under another USC - this time South Carolina - when Carlos Brown made his commitment today to the Wolverines. "He called me up and said he was going to Michigan," Heard County Head Coach Tim Barron told Scout.com Southeast recruiting analyst Scott Kennedy. "He came up to me yesterday and told me that he hadn't made up his mind yet, but that he was going to the office to fill out and application, so I knew he was serious."

Evidently the Michigan staff made a last-ditch effort to land the four-star ball carrier, and the work paid off. Brown had reportedly already filled out applications to USC and Georgia in preperation for enrolling in the spring. However, the lure of adventure beyond the South won the day. "He's relieved the process is over," Barron said. "I was talking to his mom last week, and she told me that when Carlos was younger, he always wanted to live in another part of the country when he grew up after having been in the same place all his life. He wanted to experience something different."

GoBlueWolverine.com will have more on the Brown commitment shortly.
