Wisconsin extended its unbeaten streak to 12 with a 3-2 victory over Michigan on Saturday night in the College Hockey Showcase in Ann Arbor.
Adam Burish
scored with 1:58 left as Wisconsin extended its unbeaten streak to 12 with a 3-2 victory over Michigan on Saturday night in the College Hockey Showcase.
No. 2 Wisconsin (11-1-2) is 10-0-2 in its 12-game streak, and the victory over top-ranked Michigan paves the way for the Badgers to be ranked No. 1 when the next poll comes out.
The Badgers opened an early 2-0 lead in the second off goals by
Ryan MacMurchy
with 19:01 left in the period and
Robbie Earl
with 10:28 remaining.
But Michigan (9-3-1) came back with two goals of its own.
Tim Miller
scored his first goal of the year with 9:17 remaining in the second period.
In the third,
Brandon Naurato
evened the score 2-2 with 17:13 left.
But Burish cut down the middle to split the Michigan defensemen and gained an open lane. Burish's shot hit
Noah Ruden
's pad and slipped through the goalie's legs for the game-winner.
Brian Elliott
stopped 23 shots for the Badgers, while Ruden made 24 stops in his first loss this year.
Wisconsin went 0-for-4 on the power play. The Badgers defeated Michigan State 3-1 in its other game in the holiday tournament.
The Wolverines were swept in the Showcase (for the third straight season), also losing 6-3 to 7th ranked Minnesota on Friday.
