Massey and Avant Named Captains

University of Michigan head football coach Lloyd Carr announced today that seniors Jason Avant and Pat Massey were named captains of the Wolverine football team for the 2005 season.

Patrick Massey is a fifth-year defensive tackle who has started a team leading 21 games on defense, according to MGoBlue.com He had a career-best 37 tackles in 2004, including five sacks. He is the fifth defensive lineman chosen as captain during Carr's time as head coach.

Jason Avant is a fourth-year wide receiver who looks to be the go-to guy for quarterback Chad Henne this season. He is currently the actice leader in every receiving category for Michigan and is the first receiver selected for the honor during Carr's term as head coach.

Also today, it was announced that freshman Brandon Harrison will move to the safety position. Harrison was originally recruited for the cornerback spot. GoBlueWolverine.com will have more on today's events, so stay tuned.
