Ga. QB David Cone Makes the Call

After impressing the Michigan staff enough to garner a scholarship offer, quarterback David Cone of Statesboro, Ga., High School didn't need much time to accept. On Tuesday, he told GoBlueWolverine.com he would discuss things with his coach and family before committing. On Wednesday, he made the call.

Quarterback David Cone of Statesboro, Ga., High School made the trek north last week to attend the Michigan Football Camp. He said he had been contacted by Michigan QB coach Scot Loeffler only a week prior to the trip, and was immediately interested in the Wolverines. "He called and said that people had told him about me and that he really wanted me to come up to camp," Cone told GoBlueWolverine.com. If he performed well he would gain a coveted scholarship offer to play for the Wolverines. Perform he did, and the offer was extended. On Wednesday, he called Loeffler to let him know he was coming north for good. "I just got off the phone with Michigan. I committed to Coach Loeffler and I'm about to call Coach Carr and let him know of my decision as well. Coach Loeffler was just real excited and he congratulated me on my decision," Cone told Scout.com.

What separated Michigan from the other schools on his list?

"I felt like it was a good fit for me. Their offense fits me and it's just a wonderful school for me both athletically and academically," He said.

Cone told GBW shortly after he got got the phone with the Michigan staff that his commitment is solid. "I don't think anyone can change my mind about this," he said. "I'm real excited and my family is excited. Michigan is a great school in all areas. I'm probably going to take my official visit for the Notre Dame game, but that's not final yet."

The 6-foot-6, 205-pound Cone came in under the radar for sure, but those who have seen him including GoBlueWolverine.com believe he is yet another steal for Michigan. At the recent camp, he reminded those in attendance somewhat of former Michigan signal caller Elvis Grbac.

Cone becomes the fourth player to accept a Michigan scholarship offer for the recruiting class of 2006. He chose Michigan over Ball State, Eastern Kentucky, and Mississippi State.
