The University of Michigan announced Sunday that Wolverine point guard
Daniel Horton
will remian on suspension for the remainder of the season. The suspension resulted from recent legal actions involving his girlfriend.
On Valentine's Day, Michigan point guard
Daniel Horton
pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of dometic violence. As a result the University announced the Horton's suspension will remian in affect for the remainder of the season. "As we stated all along, we understand the seriousness and sensitivity of this situation," said U-M coach Tommy Amaker. "As with all of our decisions, we will do what we feel is right." According to a University press release Horton will be allowed to practice with the team during the suspension.
The proceedings began when allegations surfaced in December that during an argument Horton choked his girlfriend until she was unconcious. Horton said he entered the guilty plea because, "He felt like her welfare is being threatened in a way that shouldn't happen," according to Horton's attorney, Gerald Evelyn.
Horton was suspended on Jan. 25. His sentencing is set for March 9 where he faces a maximum penalty of 93 days in jail, and a $500.00 fine. "This has been a very difficult time, and I've learned a lot," Horton said. "I'm grateful for the chance to get back with my teammates."
