His Recruiting Story:
A four-year varsity starter, Kevin Grady Jr. will go down in Michigan history
as one of the best high school players of all time. The star running back re-wrote
the state record books, becoming the all-time leader in career yards (8,431),
career touchdowns (151), consecutive 100 yard rushing games (24), and rushing
attempts (1,154). He led East Grand Rapids to consecutive state titles during
his sophomore and junior seasons.
He received offers from both Michigan and Michigan State after his freshman
campaign, but committed to the Wolverines in September of his junior year. Graduated
from high school a semester early and enrolled in Michigan for the winter term.
He was able to practice with Michigan during Rose Bowl preparation and acquitted
himself extremely well, reportedly breaking an 90-yard touchdown run the first
time he touched the ball (reportedly, running right over AA S Ernest Shazor to break loose)!

There is no question the Kevin Grady Jr. is the headliner of Michigan's 2005
class. Considered the top ranked player in the state of Michigan (and one of
the top 30 in the country), Grady has been a dominating presence on the field throughout
his four years of high school. Blessed with great feet, he is nimble enough
to juke defenders and go around them and can also outrun them when in the open
field. That said, the staple of his game is probably his ability to run right
through tacklers. There was hardly a time in high school when one defender brought
him down. Attempts arm tackles never even slowed him. The first player in his
path almost never brought him down. It was commonplace for opponents to need
three and four players to bring him to the turf. Known for his excellent work
ethic and high football IQ, it's extremely likely that he will pick things up
very quickly and be the #2 back in the rotation coming out of spring practice.
He should figure prominently into the backfield equation next fall. There is
no question that he'll receive a number of carries during his first season in
the winged helmet.
