Word has it that members of the Michgan staff watched Deshawn Sims today at the Peach Jam. After his impressive showing at the Nike All-American camp last week, lots of new suitors are sure to be knocking at his door. The question is, will he answer?

Explain the nickname Petey.

“That comes from way back from my grandmother. It was a pigtail thing. It’s kind of confusing.”

How do you feel about your play at the camp?

“I’m holding my own. “

Talk about some of the schools that have gotten in on you recently.

“I’m not sure because my coach talked to half of the schools. I’ve talked to Michigan State and Michigan before. But there are a lot more schools that I could’ve talked to. He has asked me if I wanted to talk and I said, ‘nah.’”

How did your family enjoy campus when they came down to Michigan?

“They liked it.”

How do you think you did down there in the open gyms?

“The first day I was killing Lester. He happened to be on my team the second day, so he was fortunate.”

Will you be getting back down to Ann Arbor for more open gyms?

“Yeah, in August.”

What are your impressions of all of the recruiting attention? Is it exciting?

“Nah. I had a vision. I knew if I kept doing what I was doing that it would come.”

If you had to name a top 5 at this point, what would it be?

“Michigan, Michigan State, Syracuse, and Kentucky. I’ll stop at 4.”

Do you have a favorite?

“I do, but I’d rather not say.”

What are your plans for the rest of the summer?

“To win one of these tournaments I go to.”

What tournaments do you have left?

“The Main Event and Peach Jam.”

Talk about the coaching staffs at Michigan and Michigan State.

“Both of them have good coaching staffs. Maybe because the impression they’re suppose to give you is the impression you get when you’re first there. Only time will tell. As far as right now, they both have good coaching staffs. “

Do you have a timetable for making your decision?

“Maybe July of next year.”

If Michigan offered you in the fall, would that be a hard one to turn down?

“It would but….July next year.”
