Dickson Takes Time Out from Hoops to talk Football
The soft-spoken Edwards said Bellflower has yet to find a replacement for outgoing head coach Brian Mustain, so there hasn't been too much focus on football over the summer. "We've been doing a little lifting but that's it," he said. "We have one of the assistants come out and help and the team is still upbeat about the upcoming season."
When the talk got around to colleges, the 6 foot 6, 225 pound Edwards said that while he has over 20 offers, three schools did stand out. "I like USC, Michigan, and Arizona," he said. "They all have good business schools and I like the staff's of each school a lot. I live close to USC so I get to see them a lot. I did call Michigan coach (Ron) English a little while ago, he came out to my scbool in May." Dickson said he wants to major in business and academics are his number one priority.
It has been speculated that while Edwards now plays tight end, that his future in college may be on the defensive side of the ball, possibly at the end position. He gave no hint of that during the interview. "All the schools are recruiting me as a tight end and that's where I want to play in college," he said. "A couple schools are recruiting me to play both basketball and football, but not the ones in my top three."
Edwards sole camp this summer was the USC Junior Day camp. With is time taken up with basketball there will be no other camps and without a head coach Bellflower won't be playing in any passing league tournaments, so for Dickson, football for 2004 starts in August. He said he hadn't set a time for his decision.
