Jeske's Going Camping

The last time GoBlueWolverine Magazine spoke with linebacker Chris Jeske from Joliet, Ill. Catholic High School he already had two offers from Big Ten schools. Since then he's received two more offers from schools outside the Big Ten and is looking at more. GBW spoke to Jeske Wednesday evening and he told us about his new offers, and his plans for the summer.

"I've got offers from Wisconsin, Northwestern, Kansas, and UCLA," Chris Jeske said. "Indiana, Illinois, Michigan State, and Arizona are some of the schools that have given me verbal offers. Right now my favorites are probably Wisconsin and Northwestern. I only want to pick favorites from the schools that offer me because I don't want to hope for something that may not happen."

While Jeske said he isn't receiving any community pressure to stay in the home state, he is getting pressure from one member of the home-town crew. "Kolo's mom is threatening to beat me up if I don't go to Michigan so I hope they at least offer," he said, laughing.

The 6 foot 1, 228 pound Jeske has had a slew of visitors stop by Joliet cathlic during the spring evaluation period, including one from Ann Arbor. "Coach Moeller was the first one to come by I think," he said. "We talked on the phone last night as a matter of fact, mainly about recruiting and Kolodziej (Michigan offensive lineman Mike Kolodziej attended JVA). I'm definitely going up to the Michigan camp for a day. My dad will probably go up with me and I'm going to try and get my linebacker coach to go with us, he like Michigan a lot. I may also camp at Wisconsin and Notre Dame."

Joliet Head Coach Dan Sharp described Jekse as a Butkus-type linebacker. "He's a great hitter and was born to play linebacker. He reads the play well and is extremely strong. He can bench press 360 and squat 600 so he is very strong. If there's anything that would help him it would be if he grew an inch or two. He's almost 6-2 now and I think he does have more growing to do, he'll end up at 6-4. He wears a size 15 shoe."

Jeske said all the schools are recruiting him as a linebacker. "I'll play anywhere but I prefer the defense," he said. Jeske is an outstanding student with a 4.3 grade point average and academics are important to him. "I'd like to major in computer science or economics," he said. "I did check out the computer science program at Wisconsin when I went up for an unofficial visit and I'll be looking at the other schools when I visit." He said a decision won't come until he's taken a couple of his official visits, when those will happen is still up in the air. "I'd like to take one during the season," he said. "But my focus then is on playing with my team so I'll probably wait until after the season to take most of them."

Jeske is beginning to check out the depth situations at some of the schools. "A couple schools that have offered want me to start right away," he said. "I don't think Michigan needs linebacker's as bad but I'm goint to call Coach Moeller next week and talk about that."
