Robertson Impressive in Opener

Fort Wayne (Ind.) 2016 four-star DE Auston Robertson led the Generals to a 53-7 win at Anderson (Ind.) on Friday. Plus, he gives his latest thoughts on Michigan and more.

ANDERSON, Ind. – At 6-foot-5, 236-pounds, Auston Robertson looks the part of a speed rush defensive end.

On Friday, the 2016 prospect played like it.

As Robertson was in on multiple tackles, rushing the quarterback and causing havoc in the backfield in Fort Wayne’s (Ind.) 53-7 victory over Anderson (Ind.).

“I had a pretty good game,” Robertson said. “The thing that messed me up a little bit was playing both sides. I got a little tired in the middle of the first quarter. That threw me off a little bit. But I still played hard and got to the ball.

The game also was an opportunity for Robertson to showcase his skills he has been working on this off season.

“The things I worked on the most of my off season was my hands, my speed and working on my hips,” Robertson said.

And that was evident in the game, as Robertson continued to get in the passing lanes with his length by putting his hands in the air and using his jumping ability to detour passes.

“I just play down for down, and go hard each down,” Robertson said.

Fort Wayne (1-0) next plays at Kokomo (Ind.) High (1-0) this Friday.

Updates Recruitment

Robertson, who attended Michigan’s annual Barbecue at the Big House in July, confirmed the Wolverines are entrenched in his top list of schools since his visit to Ann Arbor.

“Michigan is in my top-three,” Robertson said of the Wolverines. “They tied at No. 1 with Notre Dame and Michigan State. And then I am looking at Iowa a little bit [too].”

During his visit to U-M, Robertson had a chance to get to know Michigan coach Brady Hoke. And the Michigan headman has definitely made a nice impression on the four-star prospect.

“I talked to a lot of coaches, and coach [Brady] is one of the best coaches I have ever talked to,” Robertson said. “He is a real cool and down to earth. He is a nice person to talk to. I got a good vibe there. That’s what I like a lot.”

Robertson says he is planning to attend the Notre Dame-Michigan in South Bend, Ind. on Sept. 6. He also noted he would like to possibly visit Michigan when they play host to Penn State on Oct. 11. He said the only other school he is considering visiting is Ohio State at the moment.

In the meantime, Robertson sais he is gearing towards a successful 2014 season at Fort Wayne.

“I want to get at least three sacks a game,” Robertson said. “And the most tackles during the game. Those are the goals I set in the summer. So I want to achieve my goals.”
