Michigan Continues to Impress Winstons

2016 U of D (Mich.) Jesuit five-star point guard Cassius Winston made a return visit to Michigan's campus over the weekend. Winston's father details the trip and the reasoning behind it.

For the second time in as many weeks 2016 U of D (Mich.) Jesuit five-star point guard Cassius Winston was on the Michigan campus to meet up with John Beilein and the Wolverines.

Competing in the one-day college practice camp on June 7, Winston and his father decided to make a return trip this past weekend to see a little bit more of what Michigan has to offer following the extension of a scholarship on June 15.

“Coach Beilein wanted to show us around the campus and so we did that,” Winston’s father said. “We also just sat down and talked to them (the staff) about the program, the style of play, and things like that.”

“It was really just another opportunity for everybody to get to know each other,” Winston’s father added. “It was pretty much the same stuff, mostly focused on style of play and what the program offers.”

Following the extra face time with John Beilein and his coaching staff, Winston’s father says Michigan remains a strong option but isn’t ready to discuss a list nor name a leader.

“Not moving up, down or around it was just, the reason why we continue to converse with them and all that stuff is they’re very impressive,” Winston’s father. “We just continue to find the best place for Cassius.”

The Wolverines made two other offers to point guards on June 15 creating what appears to be a first come, first serve type of situation for the spot in the 2016 class.

Although the Winstons are aware of the other offers out, this wasn’t part of the conversation with Michigan.

“No,” Winston’s father said. “We didn’t even talk about that.”

Often referencing the fact that his son will continue to take his time with the recruiting process, Winston says that hasn’t changed.

“Yes that’s still the case,” Winston’s father said. “We’re just trying to get ready for that July period, the open period, and see what offers he could get.

“He’s just focused on his game right now and continuing to work.”
