Onwenu's Recruitment is Heating Up

Detroit (Mich.) Cass Tech 2016 DT Michael Onwenu updates his recruitment and more.

Detroit (Mich.) Cass Tech 2016 DT Michael Onwenu has racked up four offers this spring – including notable verbal's from Ohio State, NC State and Miami (Fla.) – easily making him one of the hottest recruiting stories from the Great Lakes' State.

And just last week, Onwenu took his talents to Michigan for its one-day camp. And while Scout currently has him ranked as the No. 7 OG in its latest player rankings, the Cass Tech standout spent most of his afternoon working out on the defensive side of the ball.

"They see me more on the defensive side," Onwenu said. "I tried to do offense, but they wanted me back on defense. So I did enjoy playing defense. But it was a nice camp overall.

"I haven't really heard from them besides the one-time I went to the camp. But it's still the same, I really love everybody. I'm not really set on going to an in-state or out of state school."

While the Wolverines haven't offered the four-star talent, he did admit he would happy if the Maize & Blue were to extend an offer his way.

"My mind set would be, if they offer, they want me to play for them," Onwenu said on a potential U-M offer. "In my family it's a Michigan-Michigan State thing. So I won't be sad about it. I will be glad I got the offer."

Onwenu, who just finished a southern camp trip with his Cass teammates, took in visits to North Carolina, NC State and Miami during his trip.

"It was a nice trip overall," Onwenu said. "North Carolina didn't give me an offer, but they said they really like me. The NC State camp was real nice. I got the offer and just worked on defense. I just like what they have to offer, same thing with Miami."

As far as what he is looking for in his future program, Onwenu says: "I'll be looking at what each subjects each school has to offer. I don't know exactly what I want to major in now. So I just want to read about the schools and see what they have to offer, and if I like it."

In the meantime, Onwenu is working towards to finishing stronger next season for the Cass.

"We should've worked harder," Onwenu said. "So it's all work now. There is no time for play."
