Hilliard Continues Research On Finalist

With a trip to Iowa to drop off his brother, Justin Hilliard continued to do research on the programs that made his final five. Scout.com spoke with the four-star linebacker about his visit with the Hawkeyes and other visits he'll be taking soon.

In about a year, Cincinnati (Ohio) St. Xavier linebacker Justin Hilliard will see his parents drop him off at the college of his choice.

The four-star linebacker witnessed firsthand the process when he joined his parents in dropping off older brother C.J. Hilliard at Iowa over the weekend.

"The trip was good as we were saying our goodbyes to C.J.," said Hilliard. "So I decided to make a trip out of it."

Was it hard to tell his older brother goodbye when the time came?

"It was pretty hard to say goodbye to him," he said. "But I'm excited for him and he's excited to be up there."

As Hilliard has explained, the trip was done with a dual purpose and gave the Hawkeyes a final chance to sell their program.

"I really got to see everything that I didn't get to see the last time," he said. "The last time I was up there was about a year ago, so we got to see the business school and dorms. But the biggest thing was getting to talk with the coaches and build a relationship with them. I also got to meet some of C.J.'s friends and they are really cool"

Hilliard made it clear to the Iowa staff he would not be returning for another visit prior to making his decision.

"I don't have an exact date yet," he said. "I'm thinking late June or early July right now. When I was there, I told them it would be my last visit because of the money for a flight and everything. But I really got to see everything and thought it was a pretty important visit to make before I make my decision."

While Hilliard will not return to Iowa, he's set to make return visits to Notre Dame and Ohio State this weekend.

"I'm going to go up to the Irish Invasion," he said. "I'll stay over on Friday night and then we're going to drive down to Ohio State so I can hang out with the players and that will be my last visits to both.

"My Notre Dame visit is just about hanging with the players as this is really just a fun trip as I don't know what else I can see there. So I'll look to see some of the commits and talk with them and see what they are thinking.

"I've not had a chance to stay the night at Ohio State and have been talking with Raekwon McMillian a little bit. So I want to see that first before making my decision. So after those two visits, I'll probably wrap it up."

While uncertain about other visits, Hilliard did say a return visit to Michigan was possible but not planned at this time. However, he did rule out visiting Alabama again as he'll have his trip to The Opening and preparation for his senior season coming up.
