Michigan signed a good four-star in-state defensive end in Southfield's (Mich.) Lawrence Marshall. Marshall, originally an Ohio State commitment, isn't just a pass rusher anymore.

His Recruiting Story:

Marshall first burst onto the scene the first game of his junior season when he had a big performance against Detroit King in the Prep Kickoff Classic. Once his early season highlight tape made the round, he would see more college attention come his way. Bowling Green and San Diego State were the first offers in October, Michigan State followed in early November with Michigan coming in late November. Ohio State offered in January and Marshall made a visit to the Buckeyes in February and committed. Four days later, he decommitted. He focused his attention in-state, visiting Michigan and Michigan State multiple times and committed to Michigan in May. Following that, he put together a great senior year, earning multiple accolades and defensive player of the year awards.

SCOUTING REPORT
Very long frame. Has great athleticism, change of direction and speed in pursuit. Has all of the tools to be an elite pass rusher, just needs continued work on his technique, particularly with his hands and disengaging. He had a big senior year and took his game and motor to another level. Added good weight as a senior, would like to see him add more. He compares favorably to Frank Clark. – Scout.com national analyst Allen Trieu

WHY MICHIGAN?
““I think the coaching staff has what it takes for me to improve my talents to get to the next level.  Coach Mattison has coached some of the greatest players, like Ray Lewis of all people.  He coached one of the greatest defenses ever with the Ravens.  I think he has got the ability to teach me the stuff I don’t know yet to get me to the next level.”

BOTTOM LINE
Marshall could provide instant pass rush for the Wolverines early in his career. Seen as more of a raw prospect when he was first offered, his outstanding senior season suggests he may be more ready to contribute than originally thought and the 25 pounds he added does not hurt either. Regardless of early impact, we have him pegged as a kid who play a lot down the line.
