Michigan snagged the No. 3 overall player in the country in five-star 2014 Paramus (N.J.) Catholic cornerback Jabrill Peppers. Peppers should be ready to impact right away in Ann Arbor with elite level speed, confidence, and a knack for the football.

Jabrill Peppers

Scout Rating:            *****

Scout Rank:               #1 CB, #3 Scout 300

Vitals:                         6’0 / 190

Hometown:               Paramus (NJ.) Catholic HS

His Recruiting Story:

Peppers immediately made an impact as a true freshman on powerhouse Don Bosco Prep’s varsity. Starring at cornerback, running back, receiver and safety, he earned two early scholarship offers from Rutgers and South Carolina following that season. By the following spring, after an outstanding sophomore season, he added offers from Notre Dame, Ohio State and childhood favorite Michigan in the span of two weeks. After transferring to Paramus Catholic for his junior season, Peppers firmly established himself as a five-star and one of the nation’s elite. After taking spring visits, he committed to Michigan on national TV in May. His senior season, he would make numerous highlight reel plays, make the Sportscenter Top 10 several times and play in the Under Armour All-American Game.

SCOUTING REPORT
Peppers is so good, so versatile, it is almost ridiculous to consider. There is a reason Peppers is five-star recruit. He does so many things well, and he is also a very good leader. He can stay tight on a receiver in press coverage and also breaks on a ball well when playing off a receiver. He has size, speed, loose hips, is a tough competitor and can be a standout at receiver, running back, safety and cornerback. He is the total package. – Scout.com East analyst Brian Dohn

WHY MICHIGAN?
“I knew right after the visit, but I still just wanted to take it slowly and give some other colleges a chance.  I figured if Michigan could surprise me so much then I’m pretty sure that another one of my top choices could as well.  Every visit I went on, I compared to Michigan and it was just no comparison.  It was just the feel of it, the coaches, just everything.”

BOTTOM LINE
Peppers is the headliner of the class, one of the most talented players Michigan has signed in recent memory and someone who is expected to be able to contribute right away. Corner will be tried first but he play also play safety and it is not out of the question that he would get offensive touches as well in time. The expectations are sky high, but his talent and high school production warrants it.
