Michigan sophomore tight end Devin Funchess was one of eight players named as semifinalists for the 2013 John Mackey Award.
The former Farmington Hills Harrison standout is on track to re-write the record books for the tight end position at Michigan (though he has technically done much of his work from the wide receiver position). He has already amassed the most yardage in a single season by a player listed at tight end with 684 yards and five touchdowns on 42 receptions. That tops Jim Mandich’s 662 yards in 1969.
With his 918 career yards to date, Funchess is currently eighth all-time on the Michigan career receiving yardage list for tight ends.
The winner of the 2013 Mackey award will be named announced on November 25th and named December 12th at the Home Depot ESPNU College Football Awards Show.
