For the first time in three games Michigan had a new starter on the offensive line as redshirt freshman Kyle Kalis took over on the right side sliding Erik Magnuson to the left in place of true freshman Kyle Bosch. The Wolverines still experienced inconsistency running the football.

IOWA CITY—After starting the same offensive line three games in a row Michigan made a change up front in Saturday’s loss at Iowa.

Redshirt freshman Kyle Kalis was inserted back into the lineup at right guard, sliding fellow redshirt freshman Erik Magnuson over to left guard in place of true freshman Kyle Bosch.

Bosch manned the left guard spot each of the three previous weeks for the Wolverines.

After the game Michigan coach Brady Hoke said Bosch is “fine,” indicating the decision was not injury related.

“He didn’t play as well as he would like to and we would like him to,” Hoke said. “It was sometime last week (when the decision was made).”

Kalis started the season as the Wolverines’ right guard before being replaced after six games.

As a unit Michigan gave up just one sack of quarterback Devin Gardner but the run game was once again inconsistent.

Senior Fitzgerald Toussaint rushed six times for 12-yards while freshman Derrick Green carried it 11 times for 23-yards.

After running eight times for 41-yards in Michigan’s win at Northwestern true freshman tailback De’Veon Smith didn’t receive any carries.

As for Kalis’ performance against the Hawkeyes, Hoke said the coaches will need to look at the tape to see if the move was a positive.

“I don’t know yet,” Hoke said. “Until I watch the film I’m not going to be able to tell you.”
