With Toussaint last week sidelined due to a concussion, Green and Smith were given the bulk of the carries in last Saturday's 27-19 triple-overtime win at Northwestern. Green finished with 79-yards on 19 carries and Smith totaled 41-yards on eight carries.
With that type of rushing production, Hoke says the three backs are splitting reps in practice as the Wolverines (7-3, 3-3 Big Ten) prepare for Iowa (6-4, 3-3).
"We got another day today," Hoke said on evaluating the running backs. "Will go through practice. But all three of them there is things that they do well."
Hope continued: "(We are splitting carries) almost into thirds. You know, it starts to depend on what part the game you're in. You get to some of the passing game, one of them might be better at that. So that's part of it, too."
But ultimately, Hoke says he is looking for a starter to emerge.
"I think at the end of the day, you got to have somebody step up," Hoke said.
