Buford working his way back
Posted Oct 14, 2013
2015 Southfield (Mich.) CB/WR Ray Buford had interest from colleges coming into this season. After an early season injury, Buford is trying to find his way back onto the field and into the minds of college coaches.
On August 30, 2013 at the Prep Kickoff Classic, the marquee game that night was Cass Tech going against Southfield High -- and 2015 CB/WR
had a pretty good night on that big stage. The 6-1/180 pounder pulled in 2 catches for 101 yards and a touchdown, and made two tackles from his DB spot. Southfield high lost the game that night -- and the next morning lost even more.
“After the Cass game I went home, and the next morning I woke up and my knee was swollen," Buford told
. "They thought it was runner’s knee, but a couple of weeks ago I had it scoped to clean out some of the bone cartilage that was floating around. I feel really good. I am hitting therapy real hard, so that I well be ready for the playoffs."
Buford makes sure to stay close to the team and continues to stay focused while he is at practice. Although he is limited at what he can do, there is still a lot more more football to learn to help him get better when he gets back.
“I make sure to help my teammates during the game as much as I can," he said. "Our football staff is very hands on with us, so I help out when I can. Mentally I stay involved by watching as much film as I can, and I just try to keep in touch with the game plan for that week."
Colleges continue to show interest with Buford and keep in contact with him during this time. He is going on visits and getting letters.
“Michigan still sends me letters. Coach Singletary wanted to know how the season is going, and lets me know they are watching me. I went up to Michigan State last Saturday for the Indiana game, and Coach Blackwell told me they would be coming to a couple of our games. Last Friday Coach Coombs was at our game, and I will be visiting Ohio State next weekend for the game against Penn State."
Buford has four offers: Eastern Michigan, Western Michigan, Ohio and Toledo. With the state playoffs coming up and another year a high school ahead of him, we can expect those offers to continue to grow. As of right now Ray Buford is just working his way back.
