Summer U-M Visit on Tap for Williams

Andrew Williams

Michigan was back at McDonough (GA) Eagles Landing Academy to further evaluate defensive end, Andrew Williams. The four-star standout hopes to return the visit favor in the not too distant future.

Michigan coaches have been anything but strangers at Eagles Landing Academy this spring. Not long after defensive coordinator Greg Mattison made his way to the school to check in on star defensive end, Andrew Williams, it was Roy Manning’s turn to stop by. Needless to say the persistence is making its mark.

“It was really good (to see them back down),” said Williams. “It was last week. (Manning) came in to watch workouts. Afterward we talked on the phone and he is a great, high character coach. We just hit it off right there. He talked about how he needs playmakers.”

Williams is clearly among the Maize & Blue’s top candidates for one of those jobs. The next step to determining how well he might fit into that role is to travel to Ann Arbor for a visit. At one point it appeared that trip would take place next month during the Wolverines’ annual summer camp. Recently, though, he began eyeing another date.

“I don’t have anything set in stone yet, but when I do go to Michigan it will most likely be on the big cookout day,” Williams said referring to the annual Barbecue at the Big House in July.

That and other summer visits will be crucial if Williams is to fulfill his previously mentioned desire to make a summer decision. All told, there are a handful of campuses he hopes to see before he is ready to make his choice.

“I’m only taking about five more visits this summer to schools I haven’t been to,” he stated. (In addition to Michigan) it’ll probably be LSU, Ohio State, and Texas. I’m definitely not trying to take visits during my senior year.”

Those trips will offer the aforementioned schools unique opportunities to move up 6-4, 240-pounder’s list in the coming months. When combined with the data from his previous visits Williams believes which school fits him the best will become a lot clearer.

“I wouldn’t say anyone is sticking out right now,” he said. “Just me personally, I’m getting an idea of which schools I’m truly interested in and which schools I’m not.”
