Delano Hill on his Move to Michigan
Posted May 3, 2013
Detroit Cass Tech senior defensive back Delano Hill reflects on his switch to the Wolverines last December. Hill talks about his recent visits to spring practices, recruiting fellow Cass Tech teammates to Ann Arbor and more.
Detroit Cass Tech senior defensive back,
was a Iowa commit late in the recruiting process.
But his commitment changed when he took an official visit to Michigan’s campus last December, as he immediately switched his commitment to the Wolverines, joining fellow Cass Tech teammates
in U-M’s 2013 class.
“That weekend I really got to know the coaching staff of Michigan,” Hill said behind the reason of his late switch to the Maize & Blue. “I got to know the players and I liked it a lot. That’s why I switched my commitment. I liked the coaching staff and I felt they had a good tradition and a good program.”
At 6-foot-1, 185-pounds, Hill is rated a three-star prospect and No. 21 safety in the final Scout.com 2013 player rankings. Since Hill switched his allegiances to the Wolverines last year, he has made it an priority to get to Michigan’s spring practices this year to help him get ready for fall camp.
“I have been to a couple spring practices just to see them practice and what they do in practice,” Hill recalled. “I’m just looking at the drills and seeing how they do it, so I can help myself before I get up there. I just want to be ready when I get up there.”
Michigan defensive backs coach, Curt Mallory, has already told Hill he’ll have a chance to play early in his career if he puts in the work on and off the field.
“He’s telling me to keep working hard,” Hill said. “If I get in and do what I am able to do, I will be able to play.”
Hill’s sophomore teammates at Cass Tech,
, are all getting serious looks from Michigan. Hill says he tells them all to be patient with their decision and puts no pressure on them becoming a Wolverine.
“Well I just tell them to take their time and pick the place that best fits them,” Hill said. “It might the Wolverines or it might not. I just tell them to take their time to find a place that fits them better.”
What are the chances that all three commit to the Michigan when it’s all said and done? According to Hill, he likes his chances.
“All three of them, yes, all three of them,” Hill said on them choosing Michigan. “I am willing to bet all three of them are coming to Ann Arbor.”
As far as what Hill is looking forward to the most when he arrives in Ann Arbor, he says just competing with his teammates in practice.
“Just the practice, just adjusting to the practices. And just playing hard and having fun on the field,” Hill said.
